Paul Seftel

Born 1974 and raised in London, Paul has lived across the US for the last 25 years. His artist materials, methods and process have come from many deep and long periods exploring diverse landscapes and communities. Focusing primarily on painting, Paul has also written a couple of books, and worked with film / video art and production. Finding his own visual language, self realization, consciousness, spiritual and astral experience all become part of the conceptual dialogue.

Discovering a mystical path at an early age, being an artist and painter has been a journey of self awareness, raw experience, strange and metaphysical initiations and many years of personal study, observation and practice of a full spectrum of painting techniques. Confronting the many conundrums of time and space, texture, natural forms and architectural patterns, hidden depths are revealed in the dozen or more layers of color, light and material. Rare moments of elemental collisions and transformation are created. The world of emotion and consciousness becomes tied to the geomorphic landscape.

Seen close up and from a great distance, this work is a study of an ancient future- our Earth, atmosphere and energy. Drawing influence from research into ancient civilizations, monumental stone works and earth art - to contemporary artists working with light, atmosphere and perception in its physical, ephemeral, and experiential embodiment. Turrell, Eliasson and Anish Kapoor are great examples and inspirations who capture the timeless, monumental, meditative and sublime in sculptural ways, and Seftel is pushing paint into new dimensions, creating works of light and earth on canvas to reflect our place in time, space and consciousness at large.
